President’s Prize Guidelines

The President’s prize is held every two years, and is awarded to an oncology nurse who has completed a piece of research either independent of an academic award (e.g., ward or department-based research) or as part of an academic award (e.g. MSc, BSc, PGDIP).

  • Research completed as part of a PhD is not eligible for entry to the President’s Prize.
  • IANO NEC members & entrants from National Bodies, may enter abstracts to disseminate important research, however, NEC members are not eligible to win a prize.
  • Entrants can submit abstracts for both the President’s prize & the Poster prize in the same year.
  • Entrants must be a member of the IANO prior to their submission of an abstract for the competition.
  • No abstracts will be accepted after 17:00. on the closing date for submission.
  • Only completed research can be entered, i.e., results & conclusions available.
  • Entrants will be notified of acceptance of their submission by the date given on the conference page of the IANO website. An email will be sent to each entrant by 17:00 one week after the closing date including clear instructions on time allowed for presentation.
  • Anonymised abstracts will be emailed to all judges for consideration on the next working day after the closing date.
  • There will be two NEC member judges plus one external judge (non-NEC member) for the presentations on the day of the conference. The external judge will be an experienced oncology nurse.
  • One of the NEC judges will be the lead judge who will take responsibility for liaising with the IANO secretariat & making executive decisions as required.
  • All presenters will be given clear instructions on time limits. The lead judge will be responsible for time keeping.
  • Entrants are required to present their research on the day of the conference. There will be a time allocated to each entrant prior to the conference.
  • Judges will meet after the President’s prize presentations to decide on the winner.
  • Accepted Abstracts will be available in the members area of the IANO website on the day of the conference.
  • The prize is a one-week clinical placement at Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Centre (MSKCC) in New York.
