The heads of four leading bodies focussed on cancer care have called for significant investment in oncology services, describing Budget 2027 as ‘a defining moment for the future of cancer care in Ireland’.
Prof John Armstrong of the Irish Society of Radiation Oncologists, Dr Michael McCarthy of the Irish Society for Medical Oncology, Eddie Conran of the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy, and Ada Kinneally of the Irish Association for Nurses for Oncology said that, as the current National Cancer Strategy comes to an end, upcoming decisions on cancer resources ‘will show whether the Government is prepared to match rising demand with the investment needed to deliver safe, timely and effective treatment’.
They have written an open letter in support of the Irish Cancer Society’s pre-Budget submission, outlining how key parts of the healthcare system are struggling to keep pace with rising service demand.
