Introduction to The Irish Lung Cancer Nurses Group (ILCNG)
The aims of the Irish Lung Cancer Nurses Group are;
• To participate fully in the development of lung cancer nursing in Ireland
• To promote the highest possible standard of care for people with lung cancer nationwide
• To participate appropriately with international nursing organisations
To promote optimal quality of life for people with lung cancer nationally
• Enhance the care of lung cancer patients by the dissemination of best practice and the sharing of information
• Assist with the development of the lung cancer nurse’s role
• Support colleagues new in post
• Highlight new developments
• Promote awareness of lung cancer amongst the general public
• Provision of a forum to update professionals on new developments
• Raising the profile of nursing. In particular, highlight the uniqueness, competence and importance of the nursing input for lung cancer patients
• Provide support and opportunities for networking

Welcome to the ILCNG!
While the ILCNG has been in existence for many years, we were officially only four nurses when we affiliated with the IANO at the end of 2012. Since becoming a Special Interest Group of the IANO, we have successfully run two lung cancer workshops at the annual IANO conference and run two annual article competitions, providing an educational bursary award which allows the winner to attend an International lung cancer conference.

2016 Educational Bursary
Irish Lung Cancer Nurses Group would like to announce their 2016 educational bursary. We are happy to fund one nurse to attend the World Conference on Lung Cancer 2016 in Vienna:
There are strict conditions attached to this bursary.
Ø The nurse must be a member of the IANO
Ø The nurse must have an oral presentation accepted to present at the conference to be eligible for the bursary
Ø The nurse must be lead author on the oral submission
Ø In the event that more than one nurse is accepted to present orally at WCLC, the ILCNG committee will choose an ILCNG representative
Ø The nurse cannot have won the ILCNG poster competition within the last three years
Deadline for entry: Please note you must notify the ILCNG by June 30th if you have submitted to present orally.
The winner will be notified by September 21st
The prize includes conference registration, flights and accommodation

We've gone global!
In 2014 we focused on reaching out to similar organisations and building the foundations for a stronger ILCNG. We have received very supportive advice from these organisations and are hopeful that we will continue to have ILCNG members representing us at national and international level in 2015.
