Introduction to ORNG:

Clinical research nurses within the oncology setting in Ireland work under the umbrella of the All Ireland Cooperative Oncology Research Group (ICORG).  Clinical trials are being conducted in 14 hospitals throughout the country.  Research nurses in each hospital work independently of each other and so have little opportunity to connect with each other.  As a result in 2013 we decided to establish the Oncology Research Nurses Group (ORNG) in an effort to facilitate communication and promote education among its members as well as raising awareness of the role of the research nurse in Ireland.

Mission Statement of ORNG:

The Oncology Research Nurses Group strives to provide expert nursing care to clinical trial participants, ensuring that this care is holistic and patient focused.

Purpose/Objective of ORNG:

  • To promote awareness of the role of the research nurse.

  • To facilitate professional development for the research nurse

  • To improve communication with our nursing colleagues within the oncology setting
